In Year 4, children need to understand plurals and be able to use them correctly; adding the correct ending like ‘es, ies, s, ves’ or irregular endings, such as women, for woman or geese for goose and so on.
These words change the structure of a sentence, when the plural suffixes are changed in the nouns.
Therefore, their use in sentences also changes.
For example: when we change from boy to boys
The boy was playing.
The boys were playing.
The irregular verb is changes from ‘was’ to ‘were’ also.
Children therefore need to make the verb change along with the prefix change or word change to the noun.
Sometimes, the word changes considerably if it is an irregular noun, and children need to learn these exceptions.
The worksheet below will support your child in Year 4’s understanding.
